Food and Drink policy

It is our policy that when children are provided with meals, snacks and drinks, in our setting these must be healthy, balanced and nutritious. Those responsible for the preparation and handling of food must be competent to do so

Procedure

  1. We will obtain, record and act on information from parents about a child's dietary requirements
  2. Where parents provide meals for their children to eat in our setting we will provide chilled storage for packed lunches and appropriate storage areas for other foodstuffs
  3. We will also provide clean and age appropriate crockery and cutlery to enable the children to eat a packed lunch
  4. Children will be provided with healthy meals and other healthy snacks and drinks as appropriate and recommended by the Food Standards Agency literature
  5. Fresh drinking water will be available at all times
  6. As a provider of meals and snacks we are aware of our responsibilities under food hygiene legislation. This includes, if necessary, registration with the relevant Local Authority Environmental Health Department. If this is the case then we are happy to have our premises inspected by a food safety officer
  7. Pets are not allowed and kept out of the food preparation area at all times. If a family pet does gain access to this area then we will ensure that all work surfaces and cooking utensils have been thoroughly cleaned before any food preparation or food handling takes place
  8. Baby changing facilities will not be near food preparation areas
  9. Laundry will not be carried out during times of food preparation and any soiled clothing or detergents will not come into contact with food preparation areas
  10. If there is an outbreak of food poisoning affecting two or more children looked after on our premises we will notify Ofsted as soon as possible but definitely within 14 days of the incident occurring in order to comply with regulations
  11. We will keep note of all food purchases, so that if there is an outbreak of food poisoning on our premises we will be able to trace the outlet where the food was purchased
